Calcifer

Yeah... I watched Howl's Moving Castle yesterday. This is the result.

First of all, no, it's not really based on Calcifer... I just decided I loved the name 'Calcifer,' and then this image--almost exactly as you see it--popped into my head. I NEVER end up with the image I started with. Until now, that is. I end up altering the anatomy to something I can draw without it looking skewed or demented. But this is actually how I saw it in my head. Which took FOREVER. I don't know HOW long it took me to get the shoulder so I could stand it... I can't believe the paper is still intact.

Anyway, I haven't drawn anything in ages, so I found the motivation to finish it. I also got to play with my charcoal pencils. I'm not sure why I chose charcoal, but I think it popped into my head that way. o_o;

I have absolutely no idea why this guy says 'Calcifer' to me... Usually, you'd think of a loud, energetic character to go with something like fire, but I guess I was thinking of a more subdued, intense kind of passion... the internal ends-up-going-insane kind, maybe. I think I've been stressed lately, and bottling it up a bit, so maybe that had something to do with it?

Umm, I might add a background at some later point... I couldn't think of anything besides more flames, and that was a. suicide with charcoal pencils and b. lame, so I nixed it. I also really liked the abstract white space... even though it was an absolute nightmare to get the anatomy right, I like the overall effect.

I might do more with (my) Calcifer later... Long, dark hair=love, and I like the way it came out. If I can think of a good story for him, maybe I'll do something with it....... we'll see.
